I fell in love with Robert Owen's voice when I first heard the Frankie Knuckles track 'Tears' and the amazing songs he made withmy hero Larry Heard. So I jumped at the chance to deconstruct a track that Robert had written and sung on, and 'Mine To Give' by Photek seemed the perfect choice. I bought the 12" when it came out in 2001 from the legendary Rhythm Records in Camden, and loved its dubby 909 deep house retro sound.
What made this deconstruction even more interesting is that Robert Owens has recently worked with http://voice-swap.ai who have modelled his voice, so the challenge was to record a vocal and see how it sounded using AI modelling. I was lucky enough to enlist the fabulous vocals of Point Blank Music School student Jade Voice who delivered a great vocal, and the results speak for themselves.
I was also delighted to invite my old colleague Declan McGlynn who was able to guide me through the voice-swapping process.
As if this wasn't enough, it was an opportunity to road test the Ableton Live 12 Beta. I hope you enjoy it!
Back in 2012 Ski wrote & developed an eight week course for pointblank entitled 'Electronic Music Composition' which can now be taken as part of the Complete Electronic Music Composition programme Enrol here!
