I am so happy to welcome back Tomokazu Hayashi for a second show! For this one, Tomo introduces Haruomi Hosono's recent musical development.
After having expanded on experimental and electronic musics such as Techno and Ambient in the 1980s and 90s, Hosono then drastically turned his head to roots and standard popular music from which he drew his deepest influence and was his musical foundation.
Hopefully you will find some astonishing encounters between roots music and techno!
Thank you to Tomo for his extensive research, words and artwork.
This show features a mix of some of my favourite YMO tracks together with solo releases from the three YMO members, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Harumoni Hosono and Yukihiro Takahashi. There are also a few cover versions as well!
I'll be DJing YMO (Yellow Magic Orchestra) inspired music at this event on Sunday 20th November 2016 with my friend Tomokazu Hayashi
Entry is free from 6.30PM so please try to come along!
Here's the schedue:
Lecture Part 1 (7:00PM-8:00PM)
Hosono in 1970s - The birth of Yellow Magic At the intervals
Ski Oakenfull DJ's YMO-inspired music Lecture Part 2 (8.30PM-9.30PM)
Hosono in 2010s - Roots music meet Techno
Inspired by two podcasts which accompany my walk to work every morning, namely The Adam Buxton Podcast and Song Exploder, I've decided to make my own radio show.
Double Vinyl pack - Original pressing!
For Ski's second album 'Rising Son' in 2005, he teamed up with Bluey and DJ Venom to produce an intoxicating blend of classic Old skool house to Nu skool soul and uplifting funktronica. It features Amp Fiddler on 2 cuts, Chi Turner on 3 cuts, Tony Momrelle and Earl Zinger and Valerie Etienne. It was initially released in Japan on Pony Canyon and later worldwide on BBE. Receiving support across the board from Gilles Peterson to Jeremy Newell to Deli-G, the album managed to keep both House and Jazz heads in the Loop!...
I've contributed two tracks to Bluey's second solo album 'Life between the notes' which is due out soon on Dome Records (UK and the world), Shanachie (USA), P-Vine (Japan).
The track titles are "Hold On" and "I'm Only Here To Remind You".
Any fellow @duolingo heads out there? I’m on a 138 streak if you fancy a follow 😀🇯🇵https://t.co/2kNwKe7R3z —
